As you may be aware, various ports across China are currently experiencing congestion, which is impacting vessel schedules, port operations and overall transit times.
With peak season now commencing, we expect increased export volumes to place further pressure on available capacity and potentially exacerbate the current congestion.
Please see below the latest update on the key North China ports:
Dalian:
No significant congestion currently reported.
Qingdao:
Anchoring waiting time: 1–2 days
Ningbo:
Anchoring waiting time: 3–5 days
- Terminal IV, Daxie & Meishan: up to 5 days
- Terminal II & Terminal III: approximately 3 days
Current estimated delays by trade lane from Ningbo:
- Oceania: approximately 5 days
Shanghai:
Anchoring waiting time: 5–10 days
- Waigaoqiao: 5–7 days
- Yangshan Terminal I & III: 5–7 days
- Yangshan Terminal IV: 7–10 days
It is currently taking approximately 2 days from berthing to vessel departure.
Carrier sailing schedules remain inconsistent, with some carriers choosing to omit Shanghai calls and instead provide additional space allocation through Ningbo.
Current estimated delays by trade lane from Shanghai:
- Oceania: 6–7 days
What this means for your shipments
Given the current congestion and the commencement of peak season, we recommend customers allow additional lead time when planning shipments from China.
Where possible, please provide booking requests and cargo forecasts as early as possible. Early notice gives us the best opportunity to secure vessel space, equipment and suitable sailing schedules before capacity becomes constrained.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with the shipping lines to minimise the impact on your shipments. However, while the current congestion remains, some delays and schedule changes are unfortunately outside of our control.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss upcoming shipments, please contact your Southern Cross Cargo representative.
