September Connected

As we head into peak shipping season, we wanted to provide you with the latest updates covering BMSB requirements, changes to USA import rules, China Golden Week, peak season planning, and our expanded 3PL services in Adelaide.

BMSB Season Has Started
Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season is now underway. This currently only affects LCL and FCL shipments from targeted countries for specific goods. It’s important to ensure your shipments are prepared for treatment or fumigation to avoid delays at the border. Early planning reduces inspection and storage risks. Please contact our team for more detailed information.

USA Import Rules – What Australian Exporters Need to Know
Significant changes to USA import regulations are now impacting Australian exporters. The USD 800 de minimis threshold has been removed, meaning most commercial shipments to the US are now subject to duty, with only gifts and letters under USD 100 remaining exempt. As a result, postal operators including Australia Post, the UK, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, and parts of the EU have suspended services to the US under the new rules.

For exporters, this change means DDP terms are required, shipments may face border delays while duties are collected, and invoice values must be declared correctly to avoid “duty on duty” charges. At Southern Cross Cargo, we can assist with proper invoicing and compliance to minimise unnecessary costs. We also recommend considering USA-based 3PL fulfilment to store inventory and fulfil orders locally, which can bypass many delivery and duty barriers. SCC partners with a US entity specialising in 3PL and importer compliance, providing end-to-end support for Australian businesses. Demand for Australian products remains high, and exporters who adapt and remain compliant will continue to succeed. For advice on DDP terms, invoice structuring, or US distribution, contact sales@sccargo.com.au.

SCC Junior Program
At SCC we are proud to be developing and supporting junior talent across our business. In an industry where many outsource junior roles, we believe it is important to provide real pathways for the next generation. Through structured training, hands-on mentoring, and clear development plans, our juniors can progress at their own pace with opportunities across warehouse operations, freight forwarding, Customs, eCommerce, and IT, forging successful careers in logistics and supply chain services.

China Golden Week – Plan Ahead
China’s weeklong holiday will run from October 1st to October 7th. Many companies may extend closures up to 2–3 weeks, and almost all government agencies, schools, and businesses will be closed. It is essential to engage with your suppliers as soon as possible and share order details with the SCC customer service team if you need shipments booked prior to the holiday period. Early notice helps us secure space on your nominated vessel and ensures transport availability.

Peak Season Market Update – Volumes & Rates
Freight volumes are rising as we enter peak season, creating upward pressure on rates, particularly from China to Australia. We encourage you to lock in rates and space early to secure capacity and cost certainty.

Black Friday, Cyber Monday & Christmas Planning
Black Friday and Cyber Monday will take place on November 29–30, 2025. Ensure your inventory arrives in Australia ahead of peak shopping, including the Christmas period. Early bookings and careful planning will help avoid last-minute delays and ensure stock availability. Please provide your POs as soon as possible.
