Middle East Freight Update #2

Following are current updates for Air and Sea freight movements in and around the Middle East.

Air Freight

Airspace across several Middle Eastern countries is currently closed or heavily restricted, including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Israel, Bahrain, UAE and Qatar.

Major global cargo and passenger hubs have suspended or significantly reduced operations, including:

  • Dubai International Airport (DXB)
  • Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH)
  • Hamad International Airport (DOH)

As a result:

  • Air freight capacity is tightening across all carriers
  • Lead times are increasing
  • If closures continue in the coming weeks, extended delays should be expected

SCC EU Air Consoles

SCC operates a dedicated weekend EU air freight console departing ex:

  • Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS)

Importantly, we are not utilising airlines affected by the current Middle East airspace closures.

Our EU air consoles are principally moving via:

  • Singapore Airlines
  • Malaysia Airlines

Sea Freight

Key Middle Eastern shipping corridors are either closed or operating under significant restrictions, including:

  • Strait of Hormuz
  • Red Sea
  • Suez Canal

These are critical global ocean freight routes.

Impacts include:

  • Longer transit times for cargo normally routed via these corridors
  • Increased congestion at alternative transhipment hubs
  • Further pressure on global vessel capacity and schedules

What You Should Do

  • Review all current orders that may be affected
  • Liaise with suppliers to determine whether cargo ready dates can be brought forward
  • Communicate proactively with customers regarding potential delays
  • Notify the SCC team of any current or upcoming orders as early as possible

Early visibility allows us to manage shipments in the most efficient and strategic way possible.

Finally, the team at SCC extend our thoughts and support to those impacted by the current situation.
