Supporting Aussie Ark

At Southern Cross Cargo, we are proud to have donated $2645 to Aussie Ark in their support to provide safe havens for our Koala population.

A report released on Tuesday by the Parliament of New South Wales has said that Koalas will become extinct before 2050 in NSW unless there is urgent intervention to prevent habitat loss. Habitat loss has been compounded by the 2019-20 bushfires, with an estimated 24% of koala habitat on public land affected. In some areas, as much as 81% of habitat had been burnt.

Aussie Ark are a company that was not only active during the bushfire crisis but are doing a lot to create sustainable environments into the long term.  From their Koala Sanctuary, to the work they are doing with Tasmanian Devils, site rehabilitation and extensive research into sustainable land practices. Post the bushfires, the animal sanctuary as well as their other volunteer services have suffered the same coronavirus downturn that many other companies have experienced – so while our funds reach them well after the bushfires, our contribution will go a long way to helping them get back on their feet now that restrictions are easing – allowing them to continue their incredible work.
